Matt Sesow
When Matt was eight years old, in the summer of 1974, he was struck by a small landing airplane while playing outside with friends near the rural airfield across the street from his house. The airplanes propeller struck his upper left arm, dragged him over 150 feet, and subsequently removed it. Matt is a self-taught artist. He uses intense colors and sharp lines to tell a moving story.
"I like the way cardboard holds oil paint and the way canvas burns my fingers and sands my nails as I scratch its surface. I enjoy the smell of linseed oil and turpentine as they fill my studio space. Painting takes all my energy and effort. It is the most important thing I do."
